Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A., together with Mesko S.A., Zakłady Metalowe “Dezamet” S.A., Zakłady Chemiczne “Nitro-Chem” S.A., Bydgoskie Zakłady Elektromechaniczne “Belma” S.A., Zakłady Produkcji Specjalnej “Gamrat” sp. z o.o. and Nitroerg S.A., a member of the KGHM Group, have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at developing domestic capabilities in blasting systems, explosives and pyrotechnic technologies for the security and defence of the state.

The agreement marks another step towards building a modern, resilient defence industry ecosystem based on domestic capabilities. The cooperation will include joint research and development, technological and industrial activities aimed at increasing the self-reliance of Poland’s defence sector in key components used in ammunition, weapons systems and munitions.
“The agreement we have signed is an important element in building Poland’s industrial and technological sovereignty in one of the most strategic areas of the modern defence industry. Together with our partners, we are developing capabilities that will determine the security of supply and our ability to independently meet the needs of the Polish Armed Forces and uniformed services in the future. Our objective is not only to increase production capacity, but also to build a strong domestic value chain based on Polish technologies, Polish expertise and a high level of local content. Only in this way can we sustainably strengthen the resilience of the state and the competitiveness of the Polish defence industry, both domestically and internationally,” said Adam Leszkiewicz, President of the Management Board of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A.
The parties intend to cooperate, among other areas, on the development of detonators and blasting caps, initiating explosives, high explosives and propellants, components used in their production, as well as pyrotechnic materials and specialised mixtures used in weapon systems. An important element of the agreement will also be the development of domestic capabilities in the formulation, technologies and components required for the production of key explosive and pyrotechnic materials.
“For 155 years, Nitroerg has been developing its expertise in explosives and blasting systems. Until now, our operations have been largely focused on the civilian market, and today our products are supplied to customers in 40 countries around the world. We want to use this experience, our technological capabilities and our international position to further develop Nitroerg also in the defence sector. The agreement with PGZ and its companies is an important step in this direction,” emphasised Marek Mrówczyński, President of the Management Board of Nitroerg S.A.
The significance of the agreement extends beyond current production requirements. In the face of a rapidly changing security environment and growing demand for ammunition and munitions, the ability to secure stable domestic sources of strategically important components is becoming increasingly critical. Developing a domestic supply chain enhances the resilience of the defence sector to external disruptions, reduces risks associated with the availability of raw materials and components, and strengthens the ability to develop proprietary products and technologies over the long term.
The agreement also forms part of the broader process of integrating the capabilities of State Treasury companies and domestic industrial entities around strategic defence projects. By combining the expertise and resources of the participants in the initiative, it will be possible to make more effective use of existing research, technological and production capabilities, while accelerating work on solutions that are critical to national security and the competitiveness of the Polish defence industry.
