26 fire-fighting units and less than 150 firefighters participated in rescue and fire-fighting exercises at the production plant in Krupski Młyn in October. Similar actions are part of our Company’s internal operational and rescue plan.

The exercise scenario provided for an explosion of a small amount of explosive material in one of the plant buildings which triggered an impact wave damaging the NITROCET production line. As a result of the incident, a significant amount of sulphuric and nitric acids were to be released and vapours were to escape to the outside. One of the employees was to get poisoned and lose consciousness. In addition, a fire was to occur in a part of the forest surrounding the plant.
– Periodic exercises on the Company’s premises allow both employees, including members of the Company’s Technical and Chemical Rescue Team and Company Fire Protection Teams, as well as rescue units to test in the field and “live” the applicable procedures for notifying, protecting and rescuing people and property. We already know that the goals set in the October training programme have been achieved. Simulated actions make the participants additionally immune to the stress always present in emergency situations – says Wiktor Borecki, Plenipotentiary of the Director for Occupational Health and Safety.
The simulation was attended by firefighters of the Tarnowskie Góry National Fire Service headquarters, a search group from Radzionków, a chemical platoon from Gliwice and a dozen or so units of the nearby Voluntary Fire Brigades. Similar exercises are held at each NITROERG facility once every 3 years. Observations made during the simulated accident will help to assess the effectiveness of our Company’s procedures in the case of an emergency situation.
