Nitroerg S.A. and the Katowice Special Economic Zone (KSSE) have just signed an agreement granting support for an investment involving the construction of a production line for PETN and RDX. This is one of the key projects in the defense and dual-use sectors, significant for the development of the industrial base of the Silesian Voivodeship, and at the same time one of the largest projects currently implemented by KSSE. The initiative aligns with the objectives of the Silesian region’s transformation strategy outlined in the report “Silesia at the Forefront of Transformation: The Region’s Potential in the Defense Sector.”
Obtaining the support decision provides Nitroerg with access to substantial public aid under the Polish Investment Zone framework, including a corporate income tax exemption on potential profits generated by the new plant (which will produce PETN and RDX) for a period of ten years from the start of operations. The value of the support may reach up to PLN 130 million.
The planned investment in Krupski Młyn includes the construction of a modern facility for the production of PETN and RDX, along with supporting infrastructure, including environmental solutions. The value of the project is estimated at approximately PLN 300 million. The project is consistent with the company’s strategic development directions, strengthening its production capacity and position in the advanced industrial technologies market. The investment will be implemented under the Polish Investment Zone mechanism, which has supported business development across the country since 2018. Thanks to regulatory changes introduced in July 2025, which included the explosives sector, it has become possible for projects of this type to receive public support, opening the way to obtaining funding.
Currently, Nitroerg is in the process of conducting a tender procedure for the “Purchase of technology and equipment for PETN and RDX production, as well as nitric acid concentration, for Nitroerg S.A. at the Krupski Młyn location.” This procedure is crucial for the further implementation of the investment and for selecting optimal technological solutions. The next step, following its conclusion, will be the announcement of a tender for construction works, which will initiate the physical implementation phase of the project.
PETN and RDX are dual-use products. They can be used for both civilian and military purposes. PETN is intended to be produced primarily for Nitroerg S.A.’s own needs, and in exceptional circumstances, it could support defense production. Both products expand Nitroerg S.A.’s production portfolio and contribute to strengthening Poland’s defense capabilities.
